About The Royal Veterinary College's Sefton Equine Referral Hospital

The Sefton Equine Referral Hospital is named after Sefton, the famous Household Cavalry horse injured in a terrorist bomb attack in the 1980's. The Hospital is part of the Department of Farm Animal and Equine Medicine and Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College and is based at the College's Hawkshead Campus, near Potter's Bar, in Hertfordshire. Founded in 1791, The Royal Veterinary College is the oldest English speaking Veterinary College in the world, and each year trains hundreds of veterinary surgeons as well as veterinary nursing students and veterinary physiotherapy students.

Like most equine hospitals, the Sefton Equine Referral Hospital is open for planned and emergency referrals 365 days a year and sees on average 1100 cases per year. A large number of senior vets, with specialist knowledge in a wide range of areas from Cardiology to Orthopaedics, ensures that every case has the benefit of a huge pool of expertise.
